Organic Foods and Health Benefits

Organic foods are made in a way that limits the use of synthetic materials during production. Going organic means to trade processed foods for fresh foods and the supermarket for the farmers' market. Our diet is indeed killing us, and it's killing our planet too. Organic food is known to contain 50% more nutrients, minerals and vitamins than produce that has been intensively farmed.

Health Benefits

  • They are grown and handled without the use of toxic chemicals. They have also undergone strict quality control and have reached a certain standard before they are certified organic and released.
  • Most of the conventionally grown produce is picked and stored before they ripen. They also undergo a lot of processes before they are sold to the consumers. This can greatly lessen the amount of nutrients in the products. And, since these crops are not dependent on chemical pesticides, they have a greater need for the antidioxants that support the plant's defense mechanism.
  • The best way to fight against cancer because the ascorbic acid, beta carotene and B vitamins found in organic products have not been reduced by the chemical toxins that are commonly used in non-organic products.
  • Can help in saving the environment. For one thing, organic farms do not use chemicals that can pollute our soils and waters. Another thing that you should consider is the fact that farmers who use the conventional means of growing crops are exposed to hazardous chemicals.
  • Better taste: People strongly believe that organic food tastes better than nonorganic food.

Our bodies are delicately balanced wonderful machines.  Any form of foreign chemical is bound to cause irritation at the least. Pesticides in food have been linked to many diseases including cancer, obesity, Alzheimer’s disease and some birth defects. Organic food and other organic items are widely available in the West these days but cafes in Pakistan seem to be moving towards this trend too. An example of such a bold move is the recent opening of N’ecos Natural Store and Café in Phase 6, DHA, Karachi.
  • N'eco's Natural Store & Cafe has three main features:
  • A store, which functions like a conventional supermarket, offering a wide-variety of grocery and home & life-style products- from hormone-free diary products to essential oils.
  • A café, catering to epicures with a cultured palette seeking high-quality wholesome meals.
  • A deli, with a bakery component, that offers ready-prepared meals such as soups and handmade pasta, and a host of scrumptious cakes, cookies and savory items for busy foodies to put together in the comfort of their own kitchen.
